Probably the best Heath and Fitness book I've every read

I really enjoyed reading this book. It explains, at a layman's level, the science behind why some foods are bad for you, and others aren't. Some of the explanations get pretty detailed, which I liked, but my wife didn't. Fortunately, the book has many illustrations, and always summarizes the information at the end of each chapter.
I was really surprised by some of the information. For example, grass fed cattle actually create a different kind of fat than grain/corn fed cattle. Our bodies are fine with the fat from grass fed beef, but fat from grain fed beef can cause inflammation. I had never heard this before, and am still skeptical, but I figure it can't hurt to make the switch.
This book makes it clear that insulin sensitivity is a big deal, and even goes as far as recommending a blood glucose meter to determine how much carbs your body can handle in a meal. Since reading this book, I've increased my protein intake, and reduced my carbs. When I do eat carbs, I try to get them from vegetables, while avoiding grain/bread.
Some other information you'll find in this book:
- Why fructose is worse that the glucose you get from eating starch
- Why you should cook with coconut oil, and use olive oil on salad.
- Why HIIT exercise is recommended.
- Why sleep is so important, and the maintenance that occurs within the brain while sleeping
- What insulin resistance is, and why it's so bad
- Why cholesterol is not bad
- That LDL is not cholesteral, and why sdLDL is bad, and lbLDL it good
- How to avoid having your body make the bad sdLDL
Those were just of the top of my head; there is much more interesting information in this book.
I'm not qualified to say all the information is correct or not, but if it is, the reasons we all thought people got heart disease have been wrong. I definitely feel I got my money's worth from this book, hopefully you will too.

I got the paperback edition directly from Dragon Door, but felt so strongly about this book that I had to leave a review here. This is it. This book fully and completely explains what's going wrong with so many of the failed and flawed approaches to weight loss and optimum health in the past. If you've ever been confused by the results of a lipid panel, get this book asap. If you don't know where to start on the path to a healthier lifestyle, get this book asap. If you're already in great shape but need to optimize your sleep, stress management, and fine tune your exercise then absolutely get this book. 600+ pages may seem like a lot, but they're chock full of answers and insights that could only have come from the combined knowledge and experience of Dr. Chris Hardy and Marty Gallagher. Can't wait to read it through again, this is life changing info!
