ANIMAL FARM
George Orwell's classic satire of the Russian Revolution is an intimate part of our contemporary culture. It is the account of the bold struggle, initiated by the animals, that transforms Mr. Jones's Manor Farm into Animal Farm--a wholly democratic society built on the credo that All Animals Are Created Equal. Out of their cleverness, the pigs Napoleon, Squealer, and Snowball emerge as leaders of the new community in a subtle evolution that proves disastrous. The climax is the brutal betrayal of the faithful horse Boxer, when totalitarian rule is reestablished with the bloodstained postscript to the founding slogan: But some Animals Are More Equal Than Others. . . .
1984
In 1984, London is a grim city where Big Brother is always watching you and the Thought Police can practically read your mind. Winston is a man in grave danger for the simple reason that his memory still functions. Drawn into a forbidden love affair, Winston finds the courage to join a secret revolutionary organization called The Brotherhood, dedicated to the destruction of the Party. Together with his beloved Julia, he hazards his life in a deadly match against the powers that be.

"A wise, compassionate, and illuminating fable of our times....The steadiness and lucidity of Orwell's merciless wit are reminiscent of Anatole France and even of Swift." --New York Times Book Review

From the Back Cover
"The two novels that you now hold in your hands have become 'modern classics'. . . taught in many schools as examples of moral weight and political prescience . . . read for pleasure, excitement and instruction." -- from the Introduction by Christopher Hitchens
PRAISE FOR ANIMAL FARM
"A wise, compassionate, and illuminating fable." -- The New York Times
"Absolutely first-rate . . . comparable to Voltaire and Swift." -- The New Yorker
"There are no replacements for a George Orwell, just as there are no replacements for a Bernard Shaw or a Mark Twain. . . . he pricked, provoked and badgered lazy minds, delighted those who enjoyed watching an orginal intelligence at work." -- Time
PRAISE FOR 1984

Do not buy this version!
By Amazon Customer
I didn't bother reading the reviews since I have already read this book and just needed a copy for my son's summer reading assignment. Huge mistake! The font is microscopic and there are no page numbers, making it unusable for him. I will be getting my money back.

Great book, poor edition
By J. Lovejoy
A very significant allegory appropriate for the times; as this is an election year, I bought this for my two teenage sons to inspire political discussions. No complaints about the book itself; you can;t go wrong with George Orwell. However, I was shocked when I turned to the publication information page and found that the only info provided is "Happy Bookshelf" and the year 2016! Absolutely no mention of the fact that Orwell published this masterpiece in 1945. It even says "First Printing: 2016!" I am sorry I bought this particular edition, as although it must somehow be legal if Amazon is selling it, the flagrant disregard for original copyright information is the antithesis of everything we English teachers are trying to instill in our students/children regarding plagiarism. I am going to my library to find an original edition so that I can check this one for accuracy. So far it does seem to be the original, though. Also, the print and font are extremely cheap looking: it looks as though somebody just typed it up, photocopied it, and stuck a cover on it.

So many typos - why?
By Amazon Customer
I enjoyed these 2 works tremendously. It's part of a retirement project to read as many iconic works as possible that somehow I didn't get down to reading early in life. However, in this day and age of spellcheckers, why are there so many typos in this Kindle edition? It looks as if the works were scanned and translated into text by software, but not then checked. Come on Amazon, you can do better.
