This my second book on the topic of spiritual warfare is very different from my first. My first book was research based and provided a scholarly review of the topic of exorcism and spiritual warfare. This book is not based on scholarly research but instead contains real stories of spiritual warfare and how they were relieved by the words of scripture and promises of Baptism and the Lords"s Super. While I could have included many more stories within the pages of this book I focused on those that I thought would be most helpful to those suffering from spiritual attack. This is a practical book of pastoral advice for those who are seeking help as well as for pastors who are seeking advice on how to deal with a subject that is rarely taught in modern seminaries.  It is my hope that those who read this book with see Jesus and his power of protection, life, and forgiveness.

About the Author
The Reverend Doctor Robert H Bennett grew up in Michigan where he served as Pastor to Our Savior Lutheran Church of Benzonia and Trinity Lutheran Church and School of Reese, Michigan. Dr. Bennett holds the degrees of B.A. from Concordia University, Ann Arbor (Human Resource Management), M.Div. (Exegetical Studies), S.T.M (Exegetical Studies) and PhD (Missiology) from Concordia Theological Seminary, Fort Wayne Indiana. His PhD research focused on the growth of the Lutheran Church of Madagascar (F.L.M.). Dr. Bennett's research led to the publishing of his first book on titled, I Am Not Afraid: Demon Possession and Spiritual Warfare.  Dr. Bennett is the Executive Director of Luther Academy and also serves Concordia Theological Seminary as a International Missions Specialist and visiting professor of missiology.

Eye-opener!

Very impressed to read views about spiritual warfare by a Missouri Synod Lutheran pastor. Though I don't believe baptism "saves" us, I do know that the name of the Lord Jesus is powerful. Even more powerful in dispelling demon possession or attachments is for a person to become a believer and follower of Jesus Christ. In that way, they have the Holy Spirit living within them -- and "greater is He that is in us that he that is in the world" (1 John 4:4). Still, for a mainline Protestant church leader to finally realize that we are in a spiritual battle which is REAL and not just symbolically is AWESOME! I highly recommend reading this author's books -- especially if you are in a mainline denominational Christian protestant church.

Taking Away Your Fears

Dr. Bennett does a fantastic job of identifying the underlying issue plaguing our fallen world: fear. Throughout his actual accounts of demonic and satanic oppression and even possession, he reveals mans desire to engage those things which only lead us into a state of fear and ultimately despair. And yet throughout, he reminds us of the true score, and the empty lies of the "old evil foe." I encourage all, Christians and those who are not, to pick up this easy to read book, as you will be pleasantly surprised by what Bennett has to reveal about what troubles most of us at one time or another and who it is that has come to rescue us from it.

About the Author
J.A. Rogers was an anthropologist and historian whose pioneering work in Black Studies was little appreciated during his lifetime. Among his many books are "Superman to Man" and "Sex and Race. World's Great Men of Color" was completed in 1947 but was published only in a small private edition. This edition has been brought up to date with an introduction, commentaries, and bibliographical notes by John Henrik Clarke, editor of "Malcolm X: The Man and His Times" and "Harlem, U.S.A."

Although presumably a work of fiction, "From Man to Superman" succeeds in doing in a slim 127 pages what whole libraries of works of non-fiction have never done - it makes most "white" Americans' ideas about race seem ridiculous.

Although written over a half-century ago, it is the most advanced book on race and racism I have ever read - and that includes my recently published book, "WHITE FOLKS": Seeing America Through Black Eyes. That a "black" man living in the Draconian racist climate of 1930s and 40s America could keep his wits about him enough to even think such thoughts is a tribute to the awesome power of the human intellect. That he could garner the Herculian strength and Einsteinian ingenuity to write and publish this most concise criticism of America's racial apartheid system, is almost unbelievable.

I cannot praise this book highly enough. It should be required reading for every American, starting with President Clinton.

The Deception is the Key

I had this book for five years before I finally picked it up to read and to my surprise, it was magnificent...an exciting verbal exchange between a politician whose knowledge regarding people is neglegeable and a porter whose knowledge of people is extensive. The two strike up a conversation first as servant to customer then ending as teacher informer to student learner. Its very passionate, engrossing and will keep your interest.

Pleasant surprise

While cleaning out a closet full of books at the community center where I serve as its Educational Director, this book falls off of the shelf. It has been the most enlightening book I have ever read! The previous reviewers have spoken ever so eloquently, I will simply say, given the psuedo-intellectual, "we have overcome" times we live in, J.A. Rogers' work should be manditory reading for all. At home and abroad. This book keeps it "real.

This book was written in the 1970's and what is so amazing about it is that is still the best book I have yet to read to help me through my suffering, trauma, and untreated PTSD. I was the victim of a violent crime that was sexual in nature and perpetrated by a stranger in my own home. If you have suffered trauma of any kind, this guide will assist you greatly as you move through the grief and healing processes necessary to recover from post traumatic stress disorder. Most importantly, it may help you to see that you are not crazy, and not alone by any means. You can learn to cope and thrive and coexist with the world again.

I would still recommend this to friends

Helps explain the process of what PTSD is and how to sort out your triggers, understand your feelings, and help give yourself a framework to think critically about personal traumas. I have read it twice over and see a therapist, the book is very helpful but for being new to the diagnosis and treatment, find little relief from using or remembering the practices within the book. I would still recommend this to friends. Completing the book was very challenging but found it to be a huge help in treatment

PTSD Handbook

Trauma comes in many shapes and sizes, but I Can't Get Over It serves as a handbook for those suffering from PTSD. From recognizing triggers and methods of coping with them to recognition of victimhood Matsakis does a masterful job. The second half of the book deals more specifically with different kinds of trauma, and the aftereffects sufferers are likely to encounter. A must have. I've read it twice, once on the recommendation of my therapist and then again recently as a refresher course. Magnificent book.

amazing insight and biblically sound

this is an amazing book for all singles, and even marrieds because mary gives valuable truth and insight into how we all relate to one another. the mistakes she discusses are all correct, I think, and she offers her own candid, open and insightful look at how we are to respond to these mistakes and carry on in our lives in a joyful, contented way as Christ would enable us, if we allow him to do His work in our lives. I found it very encouraging, and insightful and also very personal because I feel like I can relate to Mary, or better yet, that she can relate to me, as she writes the book in a very honest way. Her writing is very touching and it will spur you on to give thanks to God for all he has done and will do in your life-- and to continue trusting God, even when it is difficult. It is a wonderful book that I recommend highly.

Amazingly simple, and Tremendously Honest

I have been aware of Mary Whelchel's ministry for more than 20 years. She and I are actually very good friends. We are part of the same local church, The Moody Church, here in Chicago. She addresses issues that far too many pastors (and others) are afraid to bring up, for fear of "offending someone." Mary takes the chance, and succeeds at transparency, honesty, and integrity.

Each of the twelve chapters spoke deeply to my experience as a single man, a Christian believer, and an adult. This book is tremendous. I would HIGHLY recommend it to anyone and everyone.

Obsolete -- too general to be useful...

This book was written about 8 years ago, at the height of the "embrace your singleness, it's God's gift to you" era. The writer, who has a grown daughter who is married, has no idea about the challenges facing young, marriage-minded, single Christian women today. Her observations and suggestions, (such as not appearing too eager) are so general that they are likely to insult the average reader. She frowns on those who dare to talk about the shortage of men in their church communities, as if you're just supposed to turn a blind eye to these issues rather than work to do something about them. Fortunately, there have been better books that have come out over the past few years that tackle these issues head on, such as Getting Serious about Getting Married: Rethinking the Gift of Singleness, by Debbie Maken, and Get Married: What Women Can Do To Help it Happen, by Candice Watters. Don't bother wasting your money on this one.

Absolutely Wonderful!!!

I've just finished this incredible book during a lunch break at work and now I've got to figure out how to clean the mascara off that is running down my cheeks from crying before I can start seeing my patients!! I could not put it down last night and read until I just passed out. Only thing now is that I didn't want it to end. Just one of the best feel good books I've read in a long time. Do not miss this one.

It begins with an introduction to the sources used and to the approaches and conventions adopted, followed by a description of the basic grammatical concepts. Further chapters offer a thorough account of the features of the Latin simple clause, including verb frames, active vs passive mood, sentence type, negation, and the noun phrase, among many others.

Harm Pinkster, Emeritus Professor of Latin, University of Amsterdam

Harm Pinkster is Emeritus Professor of Latin at the University of Amsterdam. He has held visiting professorships at the universities of Bologna, Aix-en-Provence, Penn State, Pavia, Venice, Oxford, and Chicago and is a member of both the Academia Europaea and the British Academy. He is the author of On Latin Adverbs (North-Holland, 1972; reprinted by Amsterdam University Press, 2005), Latin Linguistics and Linguistic Theory (John Benjamins, 1983), and Latin Syntax and Semantics (Routledge, 1990). He is also the co-author of four of the five volumes of a Commentary on Cicero's De Oratore (Winter Verlag, 1981-1996).
