The period of ladies' fashions in France dating from the mid 1860s to the mid 1870s epitomized the classic beauty of design, fabric and embellishment. It was an era when hand sewing and creative stitching were at their best, and when the skill of artisans produced the finest, most intricate accessories. Not only did fashionable ladies and their young daughters boast the finest of wardrobes, but so did the popular French fashion dolls of the time. The most respected source for creating dolls' clothing was the girls' magazine, La Poupee Modele.The collection offers a brief glimpse of the fashions as they changed between 1864 and 1874; the garments and accessories demonstrate most of the basic shapes of sleeves, bodices and skirts of the period, with directions for executing them following the construction techniques used during that era. Photographs of both antique 12-inch and 18-inch dolls illustrate as closely as possible the patterns as presented in La Poup e Mod le, with some simplifications made for the 12-inch doll. Excellent for Period Fashion and Doll Collectors

Excellent for the history - fashions and patterns. Mother won't give it back so I'll have to order another soon. The patterns and decorative design graphics are very well done. The Photographs are so clear and beautiful. It's a wonderful book.

Really nice historical costumes. Several to choose from and make for 12 and 18 inch fashion dolls.
If I have any complaints it would be I wish that it covered 20 years of fashion starting with 1854.

A French Fashion Doll's Wardrobe

I ordered this book as I waited for a 12" Alice Leverett French Fashion doll. I looked at the book so many times as I waited for the doll. Now I have actually used the patterns and they and the instructions are wonderful. The 12" patterns fit my A. L. doll perfectly but both the 12" and 18" patterns (both sizes are included!) are also meant for the wonderful antique French Fashion dolls and instructions for altering are clear too.
